The Procedure Room is staffed by rotating clinical personnel assigned by the clinic duty roster:

Medical Assistant (MA) โ€” Clinical Scopeโ€‹

Clinical Procedures
Blood Taking & IV Access
  • Appointment blood taking & acute blood sampling
  • Thermal labeling, safe specimen handling, and blood culture collection (assisted by PPK)
  • IV cannulation and drip monitoring
Injections & Nebulization
  • IM / SC / IV injections and vaccination administration
  • Nebulization, MDI, and spacer education
  • Oral / nasal / tracheostomy suctioning
Wound Care
  • Wound dressing and suture-to-open (STO)
  • Abscess I&D, foreign body removal (ear / nose / superficial)
  • Wound debridement and complex dressing changes
  • Suture / staple removal
Genito-Urinary
  • Urinary catheterization (male & female)
  • Urine FEME, pregnancy test, and urethral catheter care
Respiratory & Cardiac
  • 12-lead ECG recording and interpretation
  • Peak flow measurement and spirometry
  • Oxygen therapy initiation
Diagnostics & POCT
  • Vision testing (visual acuity)
  • Ear irrigation, eye irrigation
  • Rapid POCT โ€” RBS, Hb, Uric Acid, HbA1c, pregnancy, dengue, etc.
  • Throat / nasal / wound swabs and sputum induction for TB
Emergency & Acute Care
Stabilization & Resuscitation
  • CPR / BLS first responder & code blue activation
  • AED operation and defibrillation
  • OPA / NPA insertion and bag-valve-mask ventilation
  • IV hydration and emergency medication administration
Crisis Coordination
  • Emergency cart and defibrillator readiness checks
  • Ambulance coordination and patient escort to HPSF Muar
  • ED referral preparation and verbal handover
Minor Procedures (Acute)
  • Acute suturing and wound closure
  • Splinting for suspected minor fractures
  • Eye / ear foreign body irrigation and removal
Documentation & Referral
Clinical Documentation
  • Complete procedure notes in SystmOne for every encounter
  • Auto-allocate patient to Emergency Rota for transfer tracking
  • Document ED referral in procedure template for workload monitoring
Referral Preparation
  • Ensure referral letter printed and prepared
  • Notify receiving team via phone for high-risk cases
  • Coordinate with referring MO on clinical instructions before transfer

Health Assistant (PPK) โ€” Support Scopeโ€‹

Sterilization & Infection Control
Instrument Processing
  • Autoclave operation and daily spore testing (Bowie-Dick)
  • Washer-disinfector cycle for reusable instruments
  • Chemical disinfection of heat-sensitive items
  • Cleaning and packing of instrument sets (dressing, suture, catheter)
Waste & Environmental Control
  • Clinical waste segregation, sharp bin management, and disposal
  • Biohazard spill management and environmental disinfection
  • Room cleaning and turnover between procedures
Equipment & Inventory
Daily Readiness
  • Daily equipment checklist โ€” defibrillator, suction, O2, laryngoscope
  • Restock emergency cart and procedure trolleys
  • Oxygen cylinder level checks and cylinder replacement
  • Autoclave and equipment log maintenance
Stock & Stores
  • Inventory count, expiry date monitoring, and stock rotation
  • Order consumables โ€” gloves, gauze, sutures, catheters, IV sets
  • Maintain procedure register and log books
Patient & Room Flow
Pre-Procedure
  • Patient identification verification and consent witnessing
  • Patient positioning and chaperoning during sensitive procedures
  • Linen management โ€” gowns, drapes, towels
Logistics
  • Specimen transport to laboratory
  • Pharmacy and blood bank errands
  • Prepare suture / dressing / catheter packs on demand
Emergency Support
Code Response
  • Fetch emergency equipment and crash cart during codes
  • Call for additional help and alert receiving team
  • Prepare sterile packs and assist MA during acute procedures
