Standard Precaution Visual Checklist
Use this as a quick visual reminder before and during patient care. For the full protocol, refer to Standard Precautions.
Hand hygiene
Clean hands before patient contact, aseptic tasks, and after body fluid exposure risk.
Gloves
Wear gloves when touching blood, body fluids, mucosa, broken skin, or contaminated items.
PPE for exposure risk
Add apron, mask, and eye protection when splash, droplet, or body fluid exposure is possible.
Respiratory hygiene
Offer a surgical mask and remind coughing patients to cover coughs and dispose tissues safely.
Sharps safety
Keep the sharps bin available, do not recap needles, and replace bins before they exceed 3/4 full.
Spillage readiness
Know where the spillage kit is kept and start quarantine, PPE, granules, disinfection, and disposal promptly.
This visual checklist supports quick recall. Use the full Standard Precautions page for detailed timing, PPE selection, sharps handling, spillage steps, and waste segregation.
